About Me
My name is Jackson Mace. I have been involved with music and specifically guitar since 1963. I have been an educator for 32 years and a working musician for 40. I have taught guitar in the classroom and also privately. My instruction has focused on advancing practical rather than theoretical knowledge and making learning fun! I have a "healthy" collection of electric guitars and enjoy working on them, setting them up, modding them, etc. I currently work as a part-time professional musician and actor. After family, my other passion is this website. I have continued practicing my saved play lists…
I must say this free lesson has inspired me to practice something my index finger suffers doing…
I have just started stretching my fingers to help accomplish these formations…
Im a dominate right hand, so after brain problems, this excites me… I hope I make you proud…

My hands hurt a bit and after a year trying barre cords on a acoustic ( I felt like giving up ) I just said no and bought an Telecaster and amp and it's so easy I now look for songs with barre cords in them. Your a great help.

Great site! I've been banging away on guitars for forty years, and never really sat down to figure out exactly what it was I was doing. Always meant to take formal lessons, just never had the time. Now I live so far from any city that has a music shop it makes finally going, nearly impossible. Thanks for putting this up, and keep up the good work.

hi therejackson, what a great site you run,wish you were doing it all them years ago when i first started to play guitar & am still learning ,what i like best is that you show us both ends of the guitar and how to play it, the differant strumming is very inportant to me as i have got into a bit if a rut there, & your right a em popped in here and there makes all the differance. who thought i would be playing beatles songs & loving it, as all i ever want to play is, buddy holly, eddy cochrane, r. stones, c.c. w.r, & of course chuck berry etc, so thanks again for all you do & keep it coming.. if any of your other logoners want to just have a jam now and again,as i have moved to live in cyprus & realy do miss playing in a band, let me know, im, 26 going on 64, but still rocking, by 4 now, bryan

I am currently taking both a beginners DVD course and a theory course and this video is by far the best explanations of the barre chords relative to the root notes that I have ever seen. So concise….the capo demo and replacement with the finger is just a brilliant lead in.

Jackson, you provide a great service to those of us who are beyond the 5 decade mark. I had always wanted to play guitar as a kid. At the age of 17, I joined the Navy and when I retired 25 years later playing guitar was an item on the top of my bucket list. I took lessons for 4.5 years and got the basic drills down, but wanted to play "campfire songs", songs friends and family knew.
With your tutilage and direct teaching approach, I have made so much progress I feel I am making up for lost time. Further, I am enjoying the time with my guitar and when my wife comes near the room, she chimes in for a brief sing along.

Jackson, I'm so glad I found you! I've been playing open chords for years but never as well… until I found this site. Barre chords are going to be a challenge but it almost seems attainable now. Thanks!

this is one awesome site. but…I have a question. HOW do I know a difference on which barre chord do I have to play from which formation? Is there a difference if I play a (for example) B7 barre chord from E or A formation? Forx further example, in your tutorial for a song from the Proclaimers, 500 miles, you used three barre chords that are made from E formation. Is it because a song starts with an Emaj chord or…?

Trust your ears and your hands Nemanja … whatever sounds and feels comfortable! The other thing I often do is watch a vid of the artist playing live to see how they form the chords. Cheers!
Jackson, not sure if you've ever seen the movie "Scanners" but your great presentation of Barre Cords has just exploded my head or maybe a forhead slap and WOW! One can try to explain but to actually SEE and hear clarifies and I know some folks seem to just know this stuff but for the rest of us.. Brother so Awesome, Thank You!

Just finished watching your barre chord lesson. I've been practising barre chords for a while now not knowing what I was playing. Your lesson cleared that up. Now I can practise knowing which chord I am playing. Thanks for the easy to follow lesson.
