Thanks for subscribing! Every week or so, as your FREE GUITAR MENTOR, I will email you an absolutely FREE lesson or guitar tip. Apply the ones you find useful in terms of reaching your guitar playing goals.

While a free guitar lesson can be a thoughtful gift for someone interested in learning to play the guitar, also another good option for gifts is to offer modest girls dresses from a kids clothing online website. It could potentially be a good way to engage with customers or offer value-added services to enhance the overall shopping experience. This additional offering can help create a positive brand image and foster customer loyalty, possibly resulting in increased sales and word-of-mouth promotion for the children's clothing website.

Save them or delete them as you see fit … but they are for you and all FREE! You won't be disappointed!

Nice to have you along Bob. My approach will be pretty eclectic, but if you can hang on through the softer stuff, we should be able to soothe that harder rock spirit!

This site is amazing.  It offers lessons with the real background and knowledge of the songs so that we can get the whole feel of the song as well as the notes and chords.  Excellent job.  I am very happy with the choices of songs that the lessons are for as I have always wanted to play them.  Thanks again

Christine December 20, 2011 at 8:28 PM

Hi Jackson!  I just checked out your site and I'm very impressed.  I may be the official subscriber, but you will actually be mentoring my 11 (almost 12!) year old son.  He's in his 5th year of lessons and is crazy about all things guitar — your lessons and tips will be much appreciated!  Thank you for all that you do.  You are a great example to kids who love music.

admin December 20, 2011 at 8:48 PM

Thanks Christine …. I truly hope he enjoys the songs and other bits. He already has a great edge having started so young!

Wade December 27, 2011 at 11:06 AM

Great website! I have already been enjoying your lessons since discovering them on Youtube. I just picked back up on learning to play guitar after a 25 year layoff. I am basically self taught and got frustrated years ago because I could never learn a complete song, only a few riffs. Your lessons are great! Looking forward to any new songs you post.

admin December 27, 2011 at 12:18 PM

Thanks Wade … glad you’re back at it!

Well I'm 45 years old now and always wanted to play guitar so here goes, wish me luck lol.I'm looking forward to using your free lessons.Any tips on how to toughen up my fingers or does that just come with time? Thanks again….

admin January 27, 2012 at 7:10 PM

Time yes …… play lots of chords w/changes every day …. some of the song lessons might be a bit over your head … so you just need to pick and choose … have good look at the whole lesson and judge if it’s going to work for you … but challenge yourself for sure.

Best Wishes …. Jackson

Hi Jackson,
Found you through the Nowhere Man lesson on YouTube.  Loved the "special effects" at the beginning.  I see you have a good sense of humor. :)  I already subscribe to a guitar training site, but I'm sure I can pick up some stuff here too and I like that it will not only be educational, but entertaining as well.
  :)

Thanks Dan … as I once read … life’s too serious to be taken seriously … that’s at least sometimes true and I guess Nowhere Man was one of those moments …. glad you enjoyed!

Hi Jackson.
Thanks for setting up your website and I'm glad I found it!
Your obviously a very good  guitarist and and even better teacher. I was not

Steve Hill March 14, 2012 at 5:04 AM

Hi Jackson, Just found you on you tube. Your lessons are fantastic and really easy to follow. I am a  52 year old and have been trying to learn for a little while now  Its  great to have someone who is not only a great teacher but can also sing. Had a look at the 500 miles lesson (good effort on the Scottish accent). Look forward to the future.
Many Thanks Steve

Appreciated Steve and welcome aboard!

Mario March 19, 2012 at 9:00 AM

Hi Jackson,
I've been teaching myself for awhile and these lessons are perfect. Strumming patterens are difficult for me to pick up on so I really like it when you enclude them.
The riff work is great.  I'm finally learning actual notes instead of just numbers!
Thank you for all your hard work.
Mario

Graeme April 26, 2012 at 10:04 AM

Hi Jackson
I'm a very late learner to the guitar at age 59 but it was always one of those things I always wanted to do (being a baby boomer of course). I now have the time!. I came across your video of California Dreamin on youtube, by accident. Wow!! Took me back many years. You have given me a real incentive to learn and play. I'm still very crude at the moment but I'm having a go.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and time so freely and I wish you all the best.
Cheers from
Graeme

Man I just wanna say I have been wanting to learn the Bo Diddley rhythm for years. Just never took the time. One view of your Bo Diddley "Bo Diddley", I had it down in 15 minutes. Also wanna say Thank You & will look forward to your emails, as I am a disabled OM ( not really that old" who is now  as enthusiastic about Guitars as ever. Went and bought back the only Guitar I owned and sold. After 17 years, my Friend had never even played it and it was in the exact shape as when I sold it to him. I will say he is meticulous and I knew the Guitar would be in the same shape as when I sold it. Thank You & look forward to your emails, as I am a disabled OM ( not that old ) who is now as enthusiastic about playing his Guitars as ever.

admin August 29, 2012 at 6:15 AM

Yuri September 12, 2012 at 12:07 AM

What a great way to catch up with all the stuff I should have learned over the last 40 years. That's the curse of being stuck as the bassplayer instead of the guitarist.

Good for you Yuri … now you have SIX!

Hi.
Found your site via a Chuck Berry lesson on Youtube, brilliant and easy to understand. I have been playing for 30+ years and have reached the dizzy heights of "Bedroom Rock God". Looking forward to more of your lessons and tips. As an asside, I have a Les Paul copy by Kay guitars (1970's(?)) and a Ltd Edition Fender Lite Ash Strat. Would be nice to be able to play something properly rather than plunking around. Love SRV and Blues Rock.
Waiting with bated breath.
Al.

Hi Jackson,
Thank you so very much for the opportunity to learn from you. I'm 68 years old and played in a band weekly for several years in the 50's and 60's. I have played several years for a church band and I would like to learn more blues and more lead riffs.
Thanks,
Rick

Greetings from Bonny Scotland. Just watched your lesson on youtube with the Hank Williams song 'cold cold heart' and found your teaching method quite easy to follow, so I am looking forward to your other lessons.

Hi Jackson. I just found your website and i find it's gonna be a BIG PLUS for me. I'm going to turn 60 this year and i want to retire playing music, i have an excellent voice but where i lack some is on the guitar part cause i only play rythm, but watching the way you explain how to play is going to improuve my guitar playing and it's going to be part of your doing. I'm glad to have found your site and wished i had found it sooner. I thank you in advance, cause for you i'm going to improuve my music sets a 100 percent. By the way i'm french so there might be some error in my writing some times. Take care…

Tracy February 22, 2013 at 9:18 AM

Can't believe I found this site. Stumbled on looking to learn A horse with no name. Your instructions were so easy to follow. This is very kind of you to do this. Time is so valuable these days. I took up the guitar 3 years ago at the age of 50. My guitar was given to me on a spiritual retreat. Most of the songs I play are Christian ( for obvious reasons..lol). I do however enjoy play other music and am just now starting to get that relaxed feeling and let the music take over my hands, if that makes any sense. Again thank you for all the time you spend doing this.  It really is a kind and generous thing to do.

admin February 22, 2013 at 10:06 AM

You are most welcome Tracy … enjoy!

Lonnie Dillman April 14, 2013 at 4:50 PM

I've been playing since my mid 20's…62 now. Never took any lessons…but love to play. I'm working on Long Cool Woman, one of my favorites. Nice lesson. You make it easy. Wish I ran into you 40 yrs ago.  Funny how learning a few runs can put some life back in my playing. Thanks

admin April 14, 2013 at 4:53 PM

Thanks so much Lonnie! Glad your fingers and heart are back at it!

Doug July 15, 2013 at 9:15 PM

Dear Mr Mace,
I am recovering from a recent surgery on my left forearm, wrist and fingers, due to health issues that  had keep me from playing for some time (2007 was a bad year-always let go of the handlebars when your Harley goes flying to the left and you are flying to the right).  Anyway, I happend to mention to my physical therapist how I missed playing and she thought it may be a good way to exercise my fingers and help restore some manual dexterity.  Your lessons are just the ticket.  Not only have they helped me to restore the use of my fingers, but to gain strength in my wrist and forearm as well.  And, by re-learning the songs and riffs that have so much meaning  for me, I am progressing at a steady rate.  Thank You so much for caring enough to pass your knowledge and love of guitar along so people, who may not otherwise have access, can learn and enjoy  music that they will be able to recreate themselves.  You truly have the heart of a teacher.  May God Bless You as you have blessed others.

admin July 15, 2013 at 10:26 PM

Really glad you are enjoying and benefiting ….. take care Doug!

Hello Jackson,
Although I got a late start in learning to play ( I am 65), my love for music goes back, like you, to the early 60's. Now retired, I can finally fulfill that dream of playing the guitar. I discovered your website when I was searching for a lesson on "I'll never find another you"  thanks for that lesson and all the others!
Sincerely,
Dave

admin December 13, 2013 at 8:50 AM

Welcome Dave!

Karl Kelton January 9, 2014 at 12:47 PM

Jackson,
I'm 60 years old from Ontario Canada, and been fooling around with the guitar for a long time (words judicially used as I love playing but definitely no expert.) For a long time I've been trying to figure out the intro to "Long Cool Woman". I Googled the song, found your site and song lesson. Your instruction is terrific – well explained, easy to follow, nicely paced  and down to earth. It's a little challenging on an acoustic, but a lot of fun nonetheless.
Just wanted to say thanks

Karl Kelton

admin January 9, 2014 at 2:51 PM

Thanks so much Karl …. Glad you worked it out!

Hi jackson, I just found you online purely by accident. I have been trying to learn guitar for 3 weeks now and I can reasonably play a few chords but as yet haven't been able to put them together into a tune. You're youtube spot on "horse with own name " has  allowed me to play my first tune (although a bit stinted) and I FEEL GREAT!!!! my wife is so impressed. I have signed up for your lessons as you have given me so much insperation. THANKYOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.

Thanks so much Edward …. you’ve made my day!

No worries Wayne … thanks for saying so!

Joe November 19, 2014 at 4:59 PM

Hi Jackson, found your site when looking for "California Dreaming".  I thought it hit the nail on the head when it comes to the way I like to learn things, in this case guitar.  I am a novice  guitar player and I was wondering if you have provided the tab to the intro for Calif. Dreaming on a previous lesson that I have missed and if so can you direct me to it as I would like to have a hard copy of it for reference.

Looking forward to whatever guitar lesons you have to share in general.

Thanks again.

admin January 7, 2015 at 8:44 AM

Really appreciate the kind words Joe! I’m glad we could connect.

Brian cody December 13, 2014 at 9:22 PM

wasnt trying to sign up for anything….

Just wanted to say how much I liked and appreciated your Hank Williams version of Jambalaya. As a "newbe" musician  every time I play live, this old guy calls for jambalaya… I can barely spell my name, … Ok I say to myself, I'm gonna learn that.    Long story short. after reviewing what is available on YouTube, well, you won. Easiest to pick it up for me a beginner, and found myself playing along with the clip, learning much more than the others……

I'll be back

admin January 7, 2015 at 8:43 AM

Thanks for the kind words Brian. I hope you enjoy learning at FGM!

Harry Moore December 16, 2014 at 11:52 AM

Hi, Jackson.  I am excited to "find" you.  It's great to have Johnny B. Goode in the key of A, since I have trouble reaching the frets in Bb.

I would like to invite you to my website.  It is called SpotlightOnCreation.com.  You might want to navigate it to see why you didn't come from a monkey, some millions of years ago.

I sincerely appreciate the free lessons.  I have been "messing" with the guitar for many years, but never got serious about it (just quit from time to time when I got frustrated).  So at seventy-four, you have given me a "new lease on life".  I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks again!

Thanks for connecting Henry. Glad to have you onboard and I hope you enjoy the learning.

Leslie December 31, 2014 at 4:23 PM

Hi Jackson,

Thanks for the free lessons! I am trying to lay a foundation for acoustic & electric guitar, the dulciemer, mandolin, and banjo. My dad had all these instruments and I want to play them. I play guitar beg-intermendiate and beg mandolin. I know I'm trying to learn too much! I hope your lessons will help me. I watched a few on youtube "Horse with no Name". I can play it now! Happy New Year!

admin January 7, 2015 at 8:40 AM

Happy new year Leslie! Surrounding yourself with all those instruments is a little like learning lots of different languages ….. I think one helps the other. Good luck with your quest and I’m glad to help.

Joseph January 7, 2015 at 6:07 AM

Great !  I hope it is not too late to learn how to play guitar at the age of 50…….

admin January 7, 2015 at 8:38 AM

Never too late Joseph …….. enjoy!

Doug Nolen April 8, 2015 at 9:47 PM

Hi, I’ve been doodling on my guitfiddle for awhile now. Hoping I can learn basics from you guys as the guy who is ostensibly teaching me ( a A/A blues playing Baptist Preacher) is an awesome guitarist but too disorganized for me to learn quickly. (Nothin but love, Bruce! lol)
Learned my favorite song tonight. “Long Cool Woman” from your instructional video. You madeit look simple. Now all I gotta do is get my fumbling fingers out of the way.
BTW, ya’ll, I’m 60 this year! Don’t let d age stop you. My 84 year old dad is still trying on an old beat up Fender flattop. “Git Some!” God Bless!

admin April 9, 2015 at 3:20 AM

Ha ha ……. thanks Doug!

Marcella May 30, 2015 at 4:58 PM

SO glad to have found this site.  I have had to put off trying to learn to play guitar my whole life…(work….kids….bills….taking care of ill parents….) Now I FINALLY have the time to actually try to learn it. ( I'm 62).  A little arthritic, but that is NOT gonna stop me.  I am currently learning simple chords and trying to perfect changing between chords, but I am REALLY struggling with strumming. Do you ever devote time JUST to assist with strumming? It would be a HUGE help.  Love your site, so GLAD I found it, keep on rockin'!

admin May 30, 2015 at 7:13 PM

Thanks for the kind words Marcella! You can take comfort in the fact that you are not alone with regard to strumming. It is the one area of guitar playing that folks are predictably concerned about. I’m not trying to sell you anything, but my premium program at songmentor.com does a much better job with strumming. I take more time with it and show close ups for every song I teach. Plus, the songs are rated in terms of difficulty so you can find the easier selections first. Should you ever be interested in this program the link below will get you the best deal I have ever offered on a lifetime membership. Take care Marcella and enjoy learning with your new-found life space.

bonnie lieberman December 4, 2016 at 7:34 AM

Hi-

I am not an absolute beginner, but I subscribed to Jam Play, and after the first few lessons of each instructor, I was at an impasse and after two months of 35 min. practicing fiv days i week, i realized this site is not basic enough for me. The biggest problem was if I didn't grasp certain lessons, I would try another teacher who did not cover that same, "how to play" eg. bass runs", It's not like learning to add fractions, for example, and not grasping how to do it and going to another teacher who might teach the same skill another way so that skill can be mastered. My aim is to play folk music, primarily, and I don't mind paying somthing for an unline course that will teach and reinforce chords like a simple "F", C7 and the like, and notes and a variety of strums. I'm in no way ready for barre chords, nor di I have the slightest understanding of bass runs. I am determined. As a high school student, I taught myself  FEW CHORDS AND WITH THE HELP OF FRIENDS, I could play a bit. Then, I got totally lost. Years later , I took 12 lessons from a teacher who focused in notes, and perhaps, too many things got in the way, so I quit. I live in Pete Seeger's town. WE used to see him around a lot and watch him play at festivals. Tom Chapin just played in the park here, and lots of people in their 40's-70's play together, many inspired by Pete Seeger. I want to play music by Phil Ochs too. What is your objective in on line teaching, and how much is your fee for someone who is a 'middle beginner"? Thanks so much.

admin March 9, 2017 at 7:32 AM

I’m sorry I missed your message earlier Bonnie! I have two objectives and online teaching. One is to provide free lessons as per this site. I have quite a few of them online and available via YouTube. The other ejective is business related as I have created a much more detailed site with more songs and more detailed lessons. I do have some Foxtel songs on that site but I’m not sure that there would be enough to satisfy you as many of the selections are classic rock or pop. It’s very cool that you have the opportunity to grow up where you have and be surrounded by such talent. Take care. Here’s the link should you choose to pursue it. sale.songmentor.com

Kelly August 7, 2017 at 6:18 AM

Thanks for the Chuck Berry Johnny B Goode video I really enjoyed anything on truck keep it coming

JIm August 14, 2017 at 5:06 PM

Do you have access to tabs for your songs.  I was learning Johnny B. Goode in B and I like your recommendation to play in it A which is so much easier but I would like the tab for the key of playing the lead in A. please advise.  thanks again Jim. Look forward to more of your teachings.

admin September 16, 2017 at 9:26 AM

I’m going to assume this is the same Jim. I don’t really have an answer on a source for completely accurate tabs. Not unlike chord charts, I find them very inconsistent in terms of accuracy. I’m pretty sure what I played in the video is accurate so if you could download a few “Johnny”  tabs and see which one seems to follow along most faithfully ….. hen that would be the one to stick with.
